About Blackstone Academy Square
Our Story….
The Blackstone Academy was once the Hoge Military Academy when the original frame was erected in 1894. At this time, it was used as a boy’s preparatory school, then closing its doors in 1907. It then became Blackstone Military Academy in 1912, which was headquarters of the Nottoway Soldiers’ Comfort League. After a fire in 1922, the building was renovated. The building was then opened in 1963 as Clay’s Residential facility and remained as such until it was sold in 2007. In March 2007, it became Clays Assisted Living Facility. Today it stands as Blackstone Academy Square, a modern apartment complex geared towards trainees, instructors and others visiting Fort Pickett. The Academy boasts 27 furnished one-bedroom apartments and 4 two-bedroom apartments. Common areas include game room and outdoor patios.
